Discover the Fiefs Vendéens wines when you explore the department of the Vendée, between the marshland area of the Marais Poitevin and the Atlantic Ocean. Located between La Rochelle and Nantes, the Vendée invites you to discover a land where life is good. By bike, by car, on foot or even on horseback, explore the Routes des Vins wine trails to the attractive towns of Brem-sur-Mer and Île d’Olonne.

Discover Brem-sur-Mer and its terroir

By bike or car, the ‘Terroir of Brem-sur-Mer’ circuit takes you from Brem-sur-Mer along the Bretignolles corniche with its beaches. Stop off at the little fishing village of La Gachère to enjoy some oysters and a chat with an oyster farmer.

Throughout your trip on the Routes des Vins you will find wine estates where you can try a glass of Brem white wine. After your wine tasting, what could be nicer than to bathe at the La Sauzaie's beaches?

Explore the Côte de Lumière

The ‘Côte de Lumière’ (or ‘Coast of Light’) circuit starts at Brem-sur-Mer. Climb on your bike or get in the car to immerse yourself in changing landscapes and discover marshlands, beaches and little villages. Stop off along the Routes des Vins to have a go at fishing or stand-up paddleboarding in the Vendée marshes. Then relax over a glass of Brem at one of the local winegrowers.

Along your route, the kids will love the bird reserve at Île d’Olonne . Don’t forget to bring your camera or binoculars!

Pedal around the Vendée vineyards

For a day’s cycling on the Routes des Vins, head off across the Vendée vineyards on the ‘Terroir of the Fief Vendéen of Mareuil’ circuit. At Mareuil-sur-Dissais, stop off and get a few provisions for an impromptu picnic! Pork rillons, fresh bread, a Vendée brioche and you’re ready to go!

Along the way, you will come across small wineries where you can enjoy a glass of Mareuil red and a tour of the wine cellars. Your route then takes you to the Conservatoire de la Négrette, a conservatory of grape varieties, for a stop amongst views overlooking the vines. Round off your trip with a glass of rosé at one of the nearby wine estates.

Be inspired by the heritage of Mareuil

Drive along the Heritage of the Fief Vendéen of Mareuil’ trail and make some unforgettable discoveries! From Mareuil-sur-Lay-Dissais, a pleasant way of discovering the town is by pedalo or rowing boat from the Port des Gabares. To the south of Mareuil, head for Lavaud’s Pont Eiffel, where you can eat out of doors, overlooking the bridge.

After lunch, have a look around the Conservatoire de la Négrette vine conservatory and the Moulin de Rambourg water mill. Round off the afternoon with a cellar tour and tasting at one of the nearby wine estates.

Explore the vineyards of Vix and Pissotte

The ‘Water and art in the wines of the Fiefs Vendéens of Vix and Pissotte’ circuit, on the Routes des Vins, is a pleasant outing by car. It will take you around the little artistic villages of Vouvant, Foussais-Payré and Saint-Michel-le-Cloucq. On this circuit, there is no shortage of rivers and watercourses. Follow the Sèvre Niortaise and admire the many hydraulic structures along its length, including the Écluses de Bazoin locks at Damvix.

To end the day, a tasting of Fiefs Vendéens wines is a must, and you are bound to want to take a bottle or two home with you!

Visit the Pays de Chantonnay and its historic sites

The Routes des Vins invite you to discover the ‘Heritage of the Pays de Chantonnay’ trail. From Chantonnay, famous for its lime kilns, drive to Sigournais. Here, you can follow a history trail that takes in the church, feudal château and fountain. At lunchtime, enjoy the regional specialities and have a stroll around the Lac de Rochereau or the Prieuré de Grammont priory.

To round off this tour, take the history trail around the village of Puybelliard.
