The association of 'Les Plus Beaux Villages de France ' selects the 'most beautiful villages of France' based on a list of criteria. 155 villages throughout France are recognised as being the 'most beautiful' and three of them are in the Pays de la Loire :

Montsoreau : alongside the Loire River near Saumur, with an outstanding Château and white tufa stone houses.

Vouvant : village of stone houses surrounded by a well-preserved fortified wall in southern Vendée.

Sainte-Suzanne : a pretty village perched on the top of a hill in the Mayenne.
