No region of the world offers such a variety of styles of high-quality wines: red, white and rosé, still and sparkling, dry, medium and lusciously sweet.

Vineyards stretch out on either side of the Loire, where grapes such as Melon de Bourgogne (for Muscadet), Cabernet Franc, Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc thrive on the chalky soil.

The art of winegrowing is one of the most established traditions in the Pays de la Loire. Every visitor will find something to savour among the sweet, dry, sparkling, white, red or rosé wines, many bearing the prestigious AOC label. The Val de Loire Wine Route offers an abundance of colours and flavours for all palettes as you travel through beautiful landscapes from the Nantes region to the pretty village of Montsoreau.

The Val de Loire Vineyards Tourist Trail: 40,000 hectares of wine tasting: Wine growing was introduced to the region by the Romans and is now one of the main treasures of the Pays de la Loire. Saumur Brut, Savennières, Coteaux du Layon, Saumur-Champigny, Anjou villages, Muscadet, Jasnières, Mareuil wines... 

Over 160 wine ‘stops’ on your route! A warm welcome awaits you in the Val de Loire wine cellars and even more so in the 160 Pays de la Loire domaines, which are committed to making every visitor’s experience both pleasurable and memorable. The members of the “hospitality quality” charter will be delighted to welcome you and share their passion for winegrowing and wine.  They are happy to share their knowledge of Loire wines and their exceptional heritage and will help you to discover new aromas and flavours. They will take time to explain the techniques and traditions of their trade.

The cellars and their treasures: Not all Val de Loire wines age in the same conditions: some might be buried in the white stone galleries of caves or hidden in the heights of a ‘moulin-cavier’ (a mill built on top of a cave). Novice and experienced wine buffs can become experts on the wine-making process and take advantage of a stay in the Pays de la Loire to discover these unusual wine cellars and fully appreciate the treasures they hold.
