The château at Montsoreau: immortalised by Alexandre Dumas 14.06.2012

This part fortress/ part château stands guard at the confluence of the rivers Vienne and Loire.

Tucked away on the outskirts of aquaint, but unassuming riverside village, it is a mixture of architecture from the Middle Ages and modern times. The château, built in 1455, was a strategic military location and was one of the first boating residences on the Loire.

The castle was immortalised by Alexandre Dumas in his book ‘La Dame de Monsoreau’. In 2009, a TV adaptation for France2 was filmed here. You can follow in the footsteps of real and imaginary historical characters.
