Le Logis de la Chabotterie 11.12.2013

Nowadays all is calm at the Logis de la Chabotterie but it was not always so. This castle and farm mark an important point in the history of the Vendée. Its name is synonymous with the end of the ‘Great War' when the King of the Vendée’ (General Charette) was brought here after his capture and before his execution in Nantes.

This fairly modest complex belies the weight of its history and features the typical layout of a Bas Poitevin fortified manor house with a castle and farmbuildings. Opened to the public in 1993, it has been restored to its former glory by The Vendée Conseil General in order that the general public can soak-up a sense of what life was like in by-gone times.

History is still being made in this ‘living’ monument as it hosts many events and exhibitions with diverse themes such as art, horse-riding, ballet and music.

Be there and experience history as it unfolds.
