Cholet: a fashion hot spot 20.06.2012

Heritage doesn’t have to date back very far… At least not in the ‘ville des mouchoirs’ (city of handkerchiefs), whose history has evolved with the textile industry.

Cholet has paid tribute to its heritage by turning a handsome old brick laundry into a museum. The Musée des Métiers de la Chaussure (shoemaking-trade museum), featuring more than 1,000 models of footwear, is another worthwhile stop. The more classic Musée d’Art et d’Histoire reminds us of wars that Vendée has endured. But this city has its finger on the pulse. A ‘must see’ for all fashionistas is the ready-to-wear hotspot with factory outlets selling marked-down designer wear. Don’t miss Marques Avenue, a large complex housing more than 80 well-known brands for men, women, children, shoes, sportswear…. Glisseo, a vast venue for anyone who enjoys water sports and attractions, is another must-see downtown.
