The landscape, art and river: a brand new artistic trail on the Loire estuary.

If you stop by the open-air art gallery, the ‘Nantes-Saint-Nazaire Estuaire’ , take time to check-out works by renowned contemporary artists found along the 60 kilometre stretch between Nantes and Saint-Nazaire. The initiative is an ‘artistic adventure in 3 parts, culminating in an ‘epilogue’ in 2012.  Renowned artists have been invited to explore the estuary and create works of art inspired by the experience. The estuary is their ‘muse’. 15 works have already been installed and are spread along the estuary where they interact with the countryside, the environment and the history of the landscape that frames them. One of the well-known artists on display is French painter and sculptor Daniel Buren, whose luminous rings mark the entrance to Nantes’ fashionable Hangar à Bananes. The finale of this artistic spectacle will result in 22 works over 16 sites that can be visited all year round.
