A great way to get around the Sarthe is by bike. For all budding Bradleys, the 'Sarthe à Vélo' offers a network of safe cycling routes. The region is currently extending the cycle ways and creating a link between two major European cycle ways: Paris-Le Mont-Saint-Michel (la Véloscénie) and Loire à Vélo. There will be 480 kms of cycle routes and 17 circuits.
From Spring 2013 cycling enthusiasts can follow routes in the North-West of the region through the picturesque Alpes Mancelles and in the North-East through the Saosnois.
The focus is on making all cyclists welcome and ensuring that there are places to stay and people along-the-way who know what cyclists want and how to make certain they have a 'smooth ride'. So, you can be sure of places to store your bikes safely and assistance in transporting them and emergency repairs.
There are options for all levels of fitness and motivation; from Wiggins wannabes with a need for speed to Sir Chris Hoye followers who are looking forward to taking it easy.
For those of you who prefer a more 'healthy indulgence' and are looking for a little luxury try the option where cycling is combined with wine-tasting and a comfortable hotel, it could be just what you are looking for. Your luggage is transported for you so no need to travel light!
So dig out your yellow jersey and start peddling!
